Weight Loss Programs for Free on the Internet
By Georgene Collins
When I set out to lose 120 pounds in 2004, I came across some weight loss programs for free on the Internet. Being a little cautious about security on the Internet, I did not register for free programs that had extensive terms and conditions.
For example, many free programs on the Internet had privacy concerns such as selling my personal information and e-mail address to outside companies for marketing purposes. Other programs asked the user to agree to allow the company exclusive rights to pictures, ideas, and weight loss stories.
While many free programs provide appealing websites and tout results, it is a good idea to do some homework on the company before becoming a member or user of their site.
Here are some tips to help you when evaluating weight loss programs for free.
Avoid registering with sites in which you need an attorney to understand their terms and conditions of use. Be wary of sites that use legal language as you may be agreeing to release your rights to the owner of the site.
Investigate the site for up-selling. In other words, check for basic or trial memberships that are free with costs associated with additional services or length of use.
Check out the type and amount of information that you need to provide at the time of registration. A truly free site should only request basic information such as your name, e-mail address, and weight-related data to help you develop a plan.
Make sure the site provides information from credible resources that deliver proven, safe results. Be wary of sites that have any and all types of health-related advertisers. For example, some weight loss advertisers produce unsafe or unproven products. Supplements and herbs claiming quick weight loss often fall into this category. Also, check to make sure the product has not been recalled by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for safety concerns.
Finally, explore alternate weight loss programs for free on the Internet. There are several reputable free weight loss programs on the Internet which require minimal registration such as your name and e-mail address. The My Pyramid tracker site is a free program which allows you to track your dietary and activity habits without sacrificing your personal rights.
These simple tips can help you choose a free weight loss program and protect your rights at the same time. By following these simple tips, you can maintain your privacy rights and learn better ways to lose weight at the same time.
