Vegetarian Weight Loss Diet - Critical Things You Need in Your Diet to Lose Weight Without Meat
By Jennifer Vanderbilt

Many people are interested in adapting to a vegetarian weight loss diet. They believe removing meat from their diet altogether is a good way to lose a lot of weight fast.

This can be true since most people following a vegetarian weight loss diet usually eat less calories than people who eat meat. In fact, studies have shown that people who follow a vegetarian diet eat at least 500 fewer calories than their meat eating counterparts.

However, it doesn't matter if you eat meat or not, if you eat more calories than your body burns you will gain weight. Moreover, some vegetarian foods will contain more fat than meat-based foods. You need a balanced vegetarian weight loss diet if you want to drop pounds effectively and this is true for a vegan, ovo-lacto vegetarian, or even if you're someone that just doesn't want to eat meat.

To help you achieve a balanced vegetarian diet there are a few basic rules you should follow that will ensure you lose weight in a healthy and efficient manner. You should always check the label before including any vegetarian product in your diet.

This is because some vegetarian food products add extra fat to make up for the lack of meat flavor. Try to keep your daily intake of fat between 30 to 40 grams.

Try to include as much complex carbs in your vegetarian weight loss diet as possible. Complex carbohydrates such as whole grain cereal, wheat bread, and rice will make you full for longer and keep you from overeating fatty foods that can sabotage your weight loss goals.

To avoid eating snack foods high in calories, try to replace them with fruits or vegetables. Also, remove mayo from your diet because 80% of it is fat. Cheese is 30% fat so if you're an octo-lacto vegetarian try not to depend on cheese in your diet.

A vegetarian weight loss diet is a great way to begin losing weight quickly. However, if your vegetarian diet is not solid it will result in low levels of nutrition, which will cause a slow down in your metabolism and weight gain.
