There are a number of different things that you can do in terms of tracking weight loss. It is important to be aware of how much weight you have lost in absolute terms and the scale can do this for you. To get a complete picture, you may also want to be tracking your loss in terms of body fat that you have lost. You can purchase scales that will tell you your body fat percentage and if you take a little time you can actually figure out the exact weight of fat that you have lost. This can be a terrific motivator.
When you are tracking weight loss, you will not only be looking for success but also keeping an eye on steady progress. If you are losing too much too quickly, then most of your loss might be in water weight and you may experience a rebound effect. If you are losing about 1 to 2 pounds per week then this is likely a rate that you can sustain for a long period of time. You may also choose to lose weight for a period of time and then maintain your weight.
Sharing your goals and writing them down can also be a good way to stay motivated. When you are tracking weight loss, you will have to write it down somewhere. Each time you have a new entry, you will be looking at your numbers and you will notice your progress. Not only can this give you a sense of pride if you are doing well but it can also serve to give you a wake up call if you are not maintaining the long-term weight loss goals that you have set for yourself.
