What is the Normal Weight Loss After Pregnancy?
By Stephanie Holden

The normal weight loss after pregnancy is around 15-20 pounds. You can shed it off even without doing anything. This is because when you deliver your baby, your body is slowly returning back to normal.

Baby weight is gone, uterus and other parts also shrink back in size and fluids such as placenta are flushed out from the body. If you are breastfeeding, you can even more weight than normal. This is because breastfeeding burns a maximum of 500 calories in a day.

However, there are some women who don't really see much difference with their weight and even their body shape right after giving birth. What gives?

Fluid retention

Most of the additional weight is caused by fluid retention. Placenta and other bodily fluids while you are pregnant are probably still in the process of being flushed out from the body. If you refrain from eating too much salty foods and you exercise after you have recovered from baby delivery, you can lose the weight caused by fluid retention effectively.

C-Section Surgery

Women who have undergone Cesarean section surgery could not get rid of a bulging stomach. Because of the surgical operation, some of the bodily fluids are not removed. In normal delivery, most of the bodily fluids are removed as result of the normal birthing process.

Give your body at least 3 months to heal surgical wounds. After that, you can start with ab exercises not only to burn calories but also to tone your stomach muscles. Sit-ups can be done while you are watching over your baby or you are watching television.

It is probably the result of your exercise

Some women notice an increase in their weight after months of doing their exercise routine. Don't worry, this is probably just muscle weight. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you are probably gaining weight because of that. It occupies less space in your body so you are virtually slimming down.

To make sure that your exercise routines are really working, why not measure your body statistics every week? Measure your waist, thigh and hip area and jot it down so you will know if it is really working.

If you are having a healthier lifestyle, eating healthy foods and incorporating an everyday exercise routine, you should begin to lose weight. You can exceed the normal weight loss after pregnancy if you do the right things. Just give your body enough time to show you the results.
