Losing Weight After Menopause is Normal - Menopause and Weight Loss the Easy Way
By Jeremy Hickling

Losing weight after menopause is easier than many women think. I have opportunities to speak with women concerned with their weight and health concerns and this phase of their lives can be the most challenging one for weight loss.

It's important that you know and understand that losing weight before, during and after menopause is not only possible, it is quite natural. Though some weight gain is normal during menopause, it can all be released. That is to say you're not losing the weight only to re-discover it again as so often happens. It means you're releasing it and you never have to be fat again.

Menopause and weight loss?

Respectfully, I understand the process of menopause and how this phase of life affects women. I am married to one - Jan. In fact I am surrounded by women in my family and as the Father of 4 daughters (YIKES!) I am very interested in their future health and welfare.

Let's look at the complete picture. Your body is making some adjustments that include a reduction of some hormone levels. This is like puberty in reverse:

* Estrogen. When this hormone level drops the body works to convert more calories into fat because these are a source of estrogen. Estrogen itself promotes the growth of estrogen sensitive tissue - fat.

* Progesterone. This is responsible in helping to regulate the menstrual cycle. Once it begins to deplete, your body will want to retain more water as the progesterone drop signals the body to retain sodium (salt.) Your clothes will feel tighter but there is no actual weight gain here - but trust me I know that's no conciliation.

* Androgen. With a rise of androgen in your body you will typically experience the on-set of 'middle age' spread. This hormone appears responsible for sending weight directly to the mid-section - but don't give up hope!

* Testosterone. You know that this hormone helps to create lean muscle mass. This is why men appear to lose weight easier than women though it's not necessarily true. We just have more muscle mass. A drop in testosterone leads to a softening of lean muscle and also a slower metabolism.

Ah! This is another reason why fat is not being burned off as it normally has been.

Losing weight in and after menopause is very do-able!

Living at a normal weight and having normal weight balance within your body is...well, normal. Even after menopause!

Being heavy and overweight is NOT normal unless you have a medical condition that prevents your body from regulating it's weight properly. Menopause may present a 'speed bump' in the rhythm of your life but it is not a permanent condition.

Good News!

'Menopause just is.' as my wife, Jan says. It just happens. So does the balance of normal weight gain and weight loss.

Obesity and pre-obesity today is the result of lifestyles that encourage poor eating and health habits and don't promote the important roles of nutritional supplementation and moderate exercise.

Notice I said moderate!

Health habits today have been shaped by an industry that caters to our immediate needs and ailments. In other words there are those mega business's out there that would like to keep us fat, happy and sick!

Losing weight permanently and naturally is easy, really. Post menopausal or not.

A lifestyle where you will experience normal weight loss includes:

  • Low glycemic food choices
  • High quality nutritional supplementation
  • Moderate exercise

Does this mean the party is over and you'll never be able to eat yummy food and enjoy life ever again!?

Not hardly! Women just like you are making the connection between menopause and weight loss every day. They're lives are free from being overweight and reclaiming their perfect figures quickly and naturally.

So can you.
